Weighted vs. unweighted high school GPA
This tool calculates your unweighted GPA (flat 4.0 scale). Most high schools also report a weightedGPA that rewards harder classes — honors add +0.5 and AP/IB add +1.0 to each class's grade points, which is why weighted GPAs can exceed 4.0.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my high school GPA?
Assign each class its grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, …), multiply by credits if your school uses them, then average. For an unweighted GPA, honors and AP classes count the same as regular ones.
What's the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA uses a flat 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA gives extra points for honors (+0.5) and AP/IB (+1.0) classes, so it can go above 4.0. Use the weighted GPA calculator for that.
What is a good high school GPA?
A 3.0 (B average) is solid; a 3.5+ is competitive for many colleges; top schools often look for 3.8+ (weighted). Requirements vary widely.
